Police Speak On Recruiting Notorious Criminal In Kano

The Kano Police Command has denied media reports that it recruited a notorious criminal in the state, Nasiru Abdullahi, into the Force.

Kano State Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, made the denial during a press conference in Kano on Tuesday, while reacting to reports that the command recruited criminals into the force.

Gumel stated that the reports of the alleged recruitment were false, malicious and calculated attempts to destroy the good image and reputation of the state police command.

The police commissioner said that Abdullahi is among the 222 repentant influential youths in Kano granted amnesty by the state government.

He further stated that out of the 222 influential youths, 50 volunteered as constabulary to help the police in fighting crime and criminal activities, of which Abdullahi is among them.

He said, “Following the directive of the state Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, the repentant influential youths who were hitherto ideal and tools in the hands of disgruntled politicians and other enemies of the state who used them to foment trouble, were properly profiled and reformed.

“I am aware that the Sahara Reporters have no correspondent or reporter here in Kano. They have not been following our events. I am rather surprised how and where they are getting such fake news.”

Gumel further stated that further investigations indicated that Abdullahi has no criminal records in any court of law, and he issued a challenge to anyone who wants to verify the fact.

“It is very unfortunate that some people are bent on tarnishing the image and reputation of the Nigerian Police, but they will not succeed. The Command will remain committed to protecting the lives and property of citizens.

“We appeal to the public to disregard such reports. The general public should continue to have confidence in the commitment of the Kano State Police Command to keep protecting lives and property in the state, ” he concluded.
