Premier League team of the week: Gameweek 32

What an interesting gameweek of Premier League football that was, eh?

While the FA Cup semi finals meant a reduced round of games, that didn’t mean there was any reduction in entertainment over the weekend. And that was largely due to most of north London self-imploding.

Here’s 90min‘s team of the gameweek:

Current Premier League table, top scorers & upcoming fixtures

GK – Sam Johnstone – The English goalkeeper put in arguably a career-best performance against Everton on Saturday, making five saves to earn Palace a valuable 0-0 draw.

CB – Armel Bella-Kotchap – Yes, he was part of a defence that conceded. Don’t worry, we know that. What we also know though is that Bella-Kotchap was brilliant against Arsenal, keeping a close eye on Gabriel Jesus throughout and even bagging an assist for Southampton’s third goal.

CB – Caglar Soyuncu – Remember him? In just his second Premier League appearance of 2023, Soyuncu looked back to near the form that saw him make the 2019/20 PFA Team of the Year.

CB – Fabian Schar – Two assists from a centre-back in a single game; of course Schar is in the team of the week.

RM – Vladimir Coufal – Speaking of assists, Coufal bagged one for himself West Ham’s 4-0 win over Bournemouth on Sunday in an overall very impressive showing from the Czech.

CM – Romeo Lavia – The 19-year-old out-ran and out-fought Arsenal’s whole midfield on Friday evening.

CM – Lucas Paqueta – The Brazilian has been at his very best in recent weeks, putting in a dogged performance against Arsenal last weekend and scoring in this weekend’s win over Bournemouth.

LM – Jacob Murphy – Set the tone for a rabid Newcastle performance on Sunday, scoring after just one minute and then following that up with a stunning goal in the ninth.

RW – Bukayo Saka – Not many Arsenal players have done themselves justice in recent weeks, but Saka did against Southampton in the 3-3 draw. The ‘Starboy’ scored one and assisted another.

ST – Alexander Isak – One of the most in-form strikers in Europe continued his fine form for Newcastle at the weekend with two goals against an utterly hopeless Tottenham team.

LW – Diogo Jota – After going a year without scoring a Premier League goal, Jota can’t stop scoring all of a sudden. He followed up his two goals against Leeds United with another two against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
