Rudi Garcia Agrees With Osimhen Over Issues With Napoli’s Attack

The manager of Napoli, Rudi Garcia, has agreed with the Super Eagles of Nigeria forward, Victor Osimhen, that the team should have improved in attack in their last league game.

Rudi Garcia started his reign as Napoli manager on a very high note by leading the team to beat Frosinone 3-1 in the Serie A opener of the 2023-2024 season.

In their second game of the season and first home game, which was against Sassuolo last weekend, Garcia, who is a successor of Scudetto winner Luciano Spalletti, led his team to a 2-0 victory.

During the game, the club’s midfielder, Kvicha Kvaratskhelia, recorded his first assist of the season to Giovanni Di Lorenzo. The club’s talisman, Victor Osimhen, also scored from the spot.

It would have been a 3-0 victory for Napoli if Giacomo Raspadori, whom Osimhen decided to gift a spot-kick duty, had not missed the kick.

Even though Osimhen scored a goal in the game, which was his 100th club career goal, and his team ended up winning with a clean sheet, the 24-year-old Nigeria international could not hide his displeasure over the missed opportunities.

After the final whistle, the former Lille striker, who helped Napoli to win the Scudetto last season with 26 goals and five assists in 32 games, was caught on camera arguing bitterly with his teammates for missed goalscoring opportunities in the game.

“He (Osimhen) is absolutely right!” Garcia told DAZN.

“We won and picked up six points; we practically didn’t run any risks, that is all positive, but we could also have improved in attack. I think not even 20 per cent of our shots were on target today, so there’s no miracle cure here; if you don’t get it on target, you don’t score goals.”

So far in the 2023-2024 season, Victor Osimhen has scored three goals in two league games. He is expected to be in action on Saturday, September 2, when Lazio visit Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
