Sebastien Haller returns to training with former club Ajax

Sebastien Haller has started training with former club Ajax as he steps up his recovery in Amsterdam following treatment for a testicular tumour.

Haller left Ajax to sign for Borussia Dortmund in the summer with the German club paying £31m for the man they hoped could replace Erling Haaland. However, he has yet to be able to play for the club after a malignant testicular tumour was discovered before the start of the season.

Since then, he has undergone chemotherapy which has left him unable to get out of bed at times, let alone play football.

The striker is spending his time in the area while he rehabilitates and so asked Ajax if he’d be able to train with them, and it was a request that the club were happy to accept.

“He asked us if he could come and train because he was rehabilitating here,” said manager Alfred Schreuder.

“Then it is of course wonderful that he can be there for a while. He was able to train on a different pitch to help his recovery.”

Just when Haller will be able to return to playing competitive football depends on whether surgery is required once he has completed his treatment.

If so, the Dortmund player will be out for several more months, but is optimistic about returning to action much sooner if that isn’t the case, confident he can quickly return to full fitness.
