Sir Jim Ratcliffe is on a major cost-cutting drive at Manchester United and will sacrifice members of staff to free up cash, according to reports.

Substantial job cuts are expected at Old Trafford with Ratcliffe keen to prioritise investment in the squad and ensure that United do not break spending rules.

Ratcliffe, who is in charge of football operations after taking over 25 per cent of the club, has already put nine players up for sale ahead of a massive rebuild.

The British billionaire has also identified a top transfer target for the summer window – Jarrad Branthwaite – who has impressed at Everton this season.

More changes are coming, according to The Telegraph, who report that Ratcliffe has appointed a corporate restructuring firm to oversee a cost-cutting drive.

The firm, Interpath Advisory, started their review this month and are examining all areas of the club to see where savings could be made.

It is thought as many as 250 jobs may be under threat, which is around 20 to 25 per cent of staff, in what could be a major sacrifice to improve the squad and make sure that United comply with profit and sustainability rules.

Meanwhile, Ratcliffe is yet to give his public backing to United manager Erik ten Hag, leading to speculation that the Dutchman could also be heading for an exit.
