Soludo Reacts As Fire Guts Onitsha Main Market

The Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has expressed sadness over the inferno at the Onitsha Main Market.

Naija News reported earlier that the popular market gutted fire, and goods worth millions reportedly got burnt in the incident.

The inferno was said to have happened at a section of the market known as “Gbongboro,” where lace and other materials are being sold.

Reacting in a statement through his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, on Wednesday, Governor Soludo said the fire incident would be investigated to prevent future occurrences.

He commiserated with the traders for their losses as reports claimed multi-million naira worth of goods were destroyed in the incident.

The statement read, “Soludo has commiserated with traders at the Onitsha Main Market over the fire incident that razed down their shops.

“The governor expressed sadness over the early morning fire on Tuesday that razed a two-storey building within the main market, which consumed some shops leading to loss of goods.

“The governor again reiterated the need for all to be extra vigilant in preventing outbreaks of fire incidences in the markets, offices and even our homes.

“He commended the efforts of the Fire-fighters and other security agencies who battled to contain the inferno.

“Soludo further assured that government will investigate the incident with a view to preventing future occurrence.”
