Son Heung-min gives injury scare to Tottenham during South Korea win | Football

Son Heung-min was on the receiving end of a nasty challenge in South Korea’s 5-0 win over Singapore

Son Heung-min handed Tottenham a brief injury scare during South Korea’s win over Singapore on Thursday.

The Spurs forward found the net with a brilliant effort from the edge of the box in a comfortable 5-0 victory in South Korea’s World Cup qualifier.

However, in the closing stages of the game Son was on the receiving end of a robust challenge which left him on the ground clutching his right ankle.

The 31-year-old was down for nearly two minutes as he was treated by South Korea’s medical staff before he hobbled to the side of the pitch.

Son then had a brief word with South Korea head coach Jurgen Klinsmann before he carried on with the remainder of the game.

Fortunately for Tottenham, Son did not appear to suffer any significant damage as he jogged and waved to cheering South Korea supporters at the Seoul World Cup Stadium after the full-time whistle.

Speaking after the game, Klinsmann described the tackle on Son as ‘inappropriate’, given that South Korea were already four goals ahead at the time.

‘I was angry at the scene where a foul was committed on Son Heung-min in a 4-0 situation,’ said Klinsmann.

‘It was an inappropriate foul and should not have been made.’

South Korea will play China in their next World Cup qualifier in Shenzhen on Tueday.

Tottenham will be hoping Son will emerge from the international break unscathed given their cutrent injury list.

Micky van de Ven, James Maddison, Manor Solomon and Ivan Perisic are all sidelined until next year, while Richarlison is expected to return in December and Ryan Sessegnon returned to training last month after hamstring surgery.
