Sporting Lagos Derby Win was Easy work – Nwokeji

The Lagos-based side, who are debuting in their first NPFL season, defeated Remo Stars 4-1 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.

Nwokeji was a top performer as he repelled constant attacks from the opposition.

The defender mentioned that the win brought some balance to the team’s standings in the league table, as well as the preparation level coming into the game.

“I feel so happy,” Nwokeji told BRL. “We prepared for this match and you could see the media publications and other things.”

“So the match was a huge match and we needed it also for us to at least have a balance in order for us not to fall into the relegation zone. So it was very important for a match for us and also a crucial one. But thank God we got the win.”

He also discussed how constant hard work has been crucial to their newly found consistency.

“I would say it’s hard work. The first round wasn’t really that easy for us. We had a lot of hard lucks and all. So coming into this second round, we know that we have to do a lot.

“We have to work a lot in the training and also in our matches, we have to give, as if that’s the last match. So I think that those has been the secret behind our consistency for this second round.”

He also gave an insight into the team’s next game against Niger Tornadoes and what they hope to achieve in that.

“We are also looking forward to win, to get a draw whichever, but we really want to win so that we will balance. Because this second round is a very difficult round, it’s very difficult.

“So we are looking for in other places we can pick points, especially away. So we are looking forward to pick points also that side.”
