Statements From Gov Wike’s Camp On PDP Crisis

Why Wike, Makinde And I Didn't Attend Osun PDP Mega Rally - Ortom

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the past few months has been battling a leadership crisis with the 2023 general election in sight.

The crisis in the main opposition party started when a former vice president, Atiku Abubakar defeated the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike in the presidential primary of the party.

Things, however, went south after Atiku reportedly ignored the suggestion of a committee set up to pick the vice presidential candidate of the party.

According to reports, the committee had advised Atiku to pick Wike as his running mate, however, the PDP presidential candidate picked the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa.

Ever since Atiku took the decision there had been several moves to reconcile the two parties but it has been an exercise in futility.

The camp of Governor Wike in its demand to support Atiku had called for the resignation of the party’s national Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.

The call, however, has not yielded fruit, with Ayu insisting on remaining in office.

Naija News has deemed it fit to share some statements of governors Wike’s camp amidst the PDP crisis.

Governor Wike on the 7th of September, 2022 said judgement day will soon come for his detractors in the PDP.

The governor claimed that some politicians were after his life for calling for the fair distribution of positions in the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Wike said PDP must as a matter of urgency give some of the national positions to the South or reap the consequences of its actions.

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, on Wednesday, said that the governors who are supporting Rivers state governor will continue to fight for their place in the PDP.

Makinde said this during the commissioning of the Emohua campus of Rivers State University where he was the special guest of honour.

He stated that his camp lost in the presidential primaries because they stood for the truth.

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike on the 6th of September, 2022 warned that he can not be bought by anyone.

Wike’s statement is coming amidst the crisis rocking the PDP.

The PDP Governor in his statement challenged anyone to show him projects executed by the Federal Government in the state.

Wike further stated that the people of Rivers State since 1999 had given the PDP the highest vote.

Governor Nyesom Wike on Monday, the 5th of September said he would crush his enemies and not leave them for God.

Wike’s statement is coming amidst the crisis in the PDP ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The Rivers State Governor on Monday had said the Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu during a flight together asked him to hand over the crisis to God.

Wike noted that he told Ikpeazu that God has given him the power to crush his enemies, hence the need to handle it himself.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has refuted reports that he is set to leave the PDP.

He made this known on Thursday during the grand finale of a week-long activity marking the 31st-anniversary celebration of Abia State held in Umuahia.

Ikpeazu, a key ally of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, called on the leadership of the PDP to prioritise national cohesion, security and inclusiveness ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
