The Real Housewives of Lagos S02E03 Recap: Sentiments and Threats

We are on the third episode of the second season of The Real Housewives of Lagos, and the tension is escalating. Oh my! Off-screen, the cast members are engaging in a not-so-subtle war of words on their social media platforms, with some even mentioning names while throwing shade at their fellow cast members. Surprisingly, even a former housewife – we all know who – has joined in on the drama.

Now, let’s delve into the events that unfolded in episode three.

*WARNING: A FEW SPOILERS AHEAD.

BOTOX WALTZ

The episode begins with Faith and Dr. Rommel rendezvousing at a dance studio to practice their dance duet for the upcoming Botox party. In this episode, we are given a glimpse into Rommel’s thoughts through his own solo diary sessions, which only strengthens our suspicion that he may be the eighth housewife. After dancing, they discuss Chioma’s wardrobe sale from the last episode, touching on various aspects, such as the event starting at 11 p.m., Tiannah apologising to Chioma, and Rommel’s dislike for Tania.

TANIA’S OPINIONS

We transition to Tania, who is signing copies of the children’s book she authored, “Sarai’s Culture Day”. Fade, her manager joins her for a meeting to discuss a future collaboration between Ziva Lagos and Lanre da Silva. Tania then proceeds to gist Fade about the stray bullets she’s been catching because of you-know-who. She shares her thoughts on the women and admits that Laura has turned out to be quite different from her initial expectations.

MUMMY-DAUGHTER TIME

Iyabo is at home and crosses paths with her daughter Priscilla, who playfully teases her about rarely being home since she started dating Paulo. The relationship between these two is so open and carefree. Love to see it.

Iyabo, however, doesn’t envision wedding bells in the near future, as she’s still observing PaulO closely to ensure he’s free from “skoinskoin”. They get on a video call with Festus (Priscilla’s brother and Iyabo’s son). Her children approve of her new relationship.

TIANNAH’S HEALTH ISSUES

Toyin and her masked husband – it isn’t easy to take this guy and his Jabberwocky mask seriously – are at the hospital. Toyin expresses her concerns about the persistent pain she has been experiencing in her neck, accompanied by shocks, blurry vision and a limited range of motion for the past two years.

Many big words are thrown around, but the summary of her diagnosis is that a few discs between her neck bones are out of place and pressing against her nerves. She’s advised to get a surgical implant, though that would be a semi-permanent fix. She leaves the hospital wearing a neck brace.

CHIOMA…

Chioma arranges a date with Laura; she intends to address the lingering issues from their past. Laura arrives late, and they engage in a conversation that gradually shifts towards the topic of Toyin. Chioma, still harbouring resentment from the attack during the reunion show, states that she never believed that Toyin was pregnant. Wow.

Laura, Laura seems to be a drinker this year—somebody who was running away from alcohol during the last season.

Amid their discussion, Tania pulls up, and Chioma opens up about feeling coerced into accepting Toyin’s apology.

TOYIN & FAITH GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER

Mariam extends an invitation to Faith to hang out with her and Toyin. Toyin is seen without her neck brace, hmm. Prior to Faith’s arrival, they touch on Toyin’s apology to Chioma. Toyin doesn’t consider herself and Chioma friends but says they are “acquaintances.”

Faith shows up accompanied by a bodyguard once again, but he is promptly dismissed by the other girls, with Toyin assuring him that she won’t be attacking his client.

Faith opens up about her marriage and the personal growth she experienced while being with her ex-husband. Both she and Toyin got married at the young age of 19, and they bond over this shared experience. Well, if anything, this little tidbit helps us calculate Faith’s age, ha!

BRUNCH AT CASA TIMMER

It appears that Iyabo and Maria have been cosying up to each other behind the scenes. Iyabo joins Mariam for Sunday brunch and games at Casa Timmer, where she is introduced to Mariam’s cousin, Hadiza Alao-Akala.

Mariam shares her desire for a second child and that she visited a fertility doctor during her recent trip to the United States. Hadiza discloses that after an eight-year journey of attempting to conceive, she opted for surrogacy and successfully is now a mother of twins.

It is commendable that this particular episode tackles a topic that is often considered taboo in our culture. Fertility struggles are an important aspect of many individuals’ lives and should be normalised and openly discussed.

DR. ROMMEL’S BOUJEE BOTOX BASH

It’s time for the Botox party, and Mariam is the first to grace the venue with her presence. Much to her disappointment, there are no hosts to welcome her, and no drinks are being passed around. Tania arrives shortly after, sharing Mariam’s dismay. When Iyabo joins the party, she can’t help but remark that it feels more like a funeral than a celebration.

Chioma then makes her entrance, and the girls discuss, their curiosity piqued by the concept of a Botox party, having never been to one before. Laura, the only group member who has undergone Botox treatments, eagerly anticipates receiving a few more injections. It gets darker, and Toyin finally arrives.

The hosts finally make an appearance! Faith appears and sits with her mother while Rommel takes centre stage as he captivates the audience with his clown waltz. Soon enough, he approaches Faith to perform their duet. At one point, he’s standing on his tiptoes, trying to match Faith’s height. Ha!

So, what exactly happens at a Botox party?

The guests move indoors, and Rommel trades his dancing clothes for a lab coat. With two assistants by his side, one of whom is shirtless, Rommel gives a demonstration. After this, he offers complimentary shots, and it comes as no surprise when Laura seizes the opportunity.

One can only hope that all the makeup was thoroughly wiped off before shots were given.

The night concludes with everyone dancing—a successful botox party.

FAVOURITE QUOTE:

“Elegant. Classy. Rich. Old money kind of dance. Not the one you gotta take your shoes off and be jumping like rabbit in the club, honey. Girls take note.” – Faith Morey.

Poco Lee is observing and shaking from one corner. I’m not sure Dr. Rommel got the memo either, but okay. His dance looked like a comedic skit.
