Thomas Tuchel speaks out on his future amid Premier League return talk | Football

Bayern Munich confirmed earlier this week that the former Chelsea boss would stand down in the summer following a disastrous run of results.

Appointed 12 months ago following the shock dismissal of Julian Nagelsmann, Tuchel made an encouraging start to his Bayern career but results have deteriorated in recent months.

Hopes of defending the Bundesliga title took a near terminal blow following last week’s defeat at Bochum, while they will have to come from behind against Lazio in the Champions League after a 1-0 loss away from home in last week’s last 16 first leg tie.

Bayern are already understood to have made an approach for Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso, also wanted by Liverpool who are planning for Jugen Klopp’s impending departure.

Tuchel’s own future is a matter of conjecture with the German reported to feel as though he has unfinished business in England after he was unceremoniously dumped by Chelsea.

The 50-year-old is understood to have designs on the Manchester United job should Erik ten Hag depart, but Tuchel is adamant nothing regarding his future will be sorted before he fulfils his obligations to Bayern.

‘Nothing’s going to happen with me before the end of the season,’ he said ahead of this weekend’s game against RB Leipzig.

‘I’m not going to have any influence now on what happens to me after the summer.

‘This job only works if I give 100 percent of myself. I have a very high professional expectation of myself and that’s completely dedicated to Bayern Munich until the end of the season.’

‘We’re still playing for two titles, as unlikely as that feels at the moment,’ he added. ‘And every weekend the maximum success is three points, which we always want to get. It’s as simple as that.

‘The situation is changing. My decisions will now be characterised by more freedom. Because I know that I no longer have to weigh up the long-term effect of a certain decision. We can now coach all games like a cup game.

‘For me personally, things no longer have a long-term effect. There are enough examples where something like that can help a coach or a team. I always expect the maximum, we haven’t delivered that often enough.’
