Tobi Amusan Blasts Irish Journalist For Asking Her About Doping

BREAKING: Amusan finishes second in Lausanne Diamond League

World 100-meter hurdles champion and record holder, Tobi Amusan, couldn’t keep her cool when an Irish journalist asked her how she was involved in a doping scandal.

Recall that Tobi Amusan almost missed the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary after allegedly failing three doping tests in 12 months.

Fortunately for her, the Athletics Integrity Unit cleared her of the doping allegations after an independent panel had sat on the case.

Hence, her indefinite ban from the sport was lifted, and permitted to represent Nigeria in the 2023 World Athletics Championships.

On Tuesday, August 22, Tobi Amusan, who won the 100-meter hurdles at the last edition of the tournament in Oregon in the United States, commenced her title defense. She won Heat 5 and qualified for the semi-finals.

After the victory, Amusan faced the press in Budapest and an Irish journalist identified as Cathal Dennehy, asked her, “Tobi, just on the point to the fans, I guess some of them are wondering what led to the charge. Would you be able to clarify the reasons behind that?”

Tobi Amusan responded, “I’m talking about my fans, and you’re talking about charges. What charges?”

“Mr. Cathal, I am not going to answer your question. You’ve asked the same question five times now and I am not answering it. Ridiculous.

“You run fast, they want to talk about my shoes; you don’t run fast, they want to talk about what’s going on. Come on, cut me that slack”.
