Two teenage phone snatchers nabbed in Yola

Two teenage boys who seized a phone from a female passerby in Yola, Adamawa State, have been rounded up by people in the neighbourhood and handed over to the police.

It was gathered on Tuesday that the teenagers, Suleiman Shuaibu,15 years old, and Abdulazeez Sani, 14 years old, were on Monday, October 9, detained by the Adamawa State Police Command for snatching the handset.

The boys, believed to be members of a young criminal group known in local parlance as Shila Boys, are residents of Jambutu, a large residential community in Yola North LGA.

Armed with a knife, they reportedly snatched their victim’s property at a flyover bridge near the Jimeta Modern Market in Yola North LGA in the afternoon of Monday.

Abdulazeez had allegedly stolen the knife they used to frighten their victim before taking her phone, from his grandfather.

According to witnesses, the boys had seen the woman trekking along the street and threatened her with the knife to surrender her bag to them.

They allegedly confiscated it after she told them that she was not carrying anything.

They searched the bag and removed her handset, but luck ran out on them because as they made to leave the scene, some men who had been watching, swooped on them and stopped their escape.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Adamawa State, Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the arrest of the boys, assuring that they would be prosecuted.
