UCL: Defensive blocks, they’ve no intention of playing – Arteta hits Porto after Arsenal’s defeat

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has hit out at FC Porto after his side’s Round of 16 first leg defeat on Wednesday night.

Arteta said that Porto have no intention of playing, branding the Portuguese side as ‘defensive blocks.

Arsenal dominated most of the game, but conceded a late goal scored by Galeno in the 94th minute as the match ended 1-0 in favour of the host.

When asked about Porto’s tactics, Arteta said at his post-match interview after Arsenal’s defeat: “We are very used to playing against these defensive blocks, especially in the first half we lacked certain things.

“We will learn from it and be better in the return game.

“Faced with such a low block and a team with no intention of playing, this is what we have to do.”

Arsenal will now hope to turn the table around when they face Porto in the return leg in the coming days.
