One of the most popular beermakers in China said it is investigating a viral video that appeared to show a factory worker urinating into a large vat of ingredients this month.
The video came from inside a brewery belonging to Tsingtao, the second-largest beermaker in China, according to the BBC.
In the clip, a man wearing a blue uniform and a hard hat is seen climbing into a large container. The man, who has not been identified publicly, then appears to urinate into the vat.
The container was believed to hold ingredients for the company’s popular light lager.
The video was originally posted to the Chinese social media site Weibo this month and has since been viewed tens of millions of times.

On Friday, Tsingtao released a statement about the growing outrage surrounding the viral clip and said the company had already contacted local police. The beermaker said the video is from inside its factory in Pingdu City, China.
Alongside police, Tsingtao is also investigating the incident privately; the beer company said the soiled batch of malt was sealed.
“Our company continues to increase management efforts to ensure product quality, and welcomes consumer supervision,” Tsingtao wrote in the statement.
The Chinese newspaper National Business Daily claimed both the person in the video and the person who filmed the video are not direct employees of Tsingtao. The outlet reported both people were detained by police shortly after the video was shared online.
On Monday, as concern around the video continued online, shares in Tsingtao Brewery fell around 6.75 per cent on the Shanghai exchange.
