“We Love Amputee Football With A passion”- Abel Peter Shares Thoughts As Nigerian Amputee Football Federation Hosts Thrilling “Kick for Love” Tournament

In a celebration of both sport and love, the Nigerian Amputee Football Federation (NAFF) recently hosted the exhilarating “Kick for Love” tournament at the Obele Oniwala stadium in Surulere, Lagos on February 14th.

The event, which marked the Valentine’s season, saw Team Phoenix and Diamond face off in a riveting novelty match that ended in a draw, captivating audiences with their skill and determination.

Abel Peter, a prominent member of Team Phoenix, shared his insights on the event in an exclusive interview with Sports 247, highlighting the significance of the tournament and the growing popularity of amputee football both locally and internationally.

“This is the second Kick for Love event. We played it last year and this year, 2024. So, we have been playing this game.

We love Amputee football with passion and it’s going all over the world,” expressed Abel, emphasizing the passion that drives players in this unique sport.

Speaking about the expansion of the tournament, Abel stated, “Today, this tournament is being held all over the states. In Kwara, in Imo, in Jos, in Kano, in Niger, it’s going on all over the country. Our players need sponsors.”

Touching upon the upcoming Nations Cup in April 2024, Abel expressed optimism about his team’s prospects. “With God, we know everything is possible. We’ll make the country proud by the special grace of God.

I know it’s not easy in this country but we are not going to relent,” he affirmed, showcasing his unwavering determination.

Reflecting on his journey in amputee football, Abel shared, “I have played Amputee football since 2008. I have travelled to Liberia, that is my last trip.

I am continuing with them. I didn’t give up,” illustrating the resilience and dedication inherent in the sport.

Praising the leadership of President Maduakor, Abel commended the positive changes implemented since his tenure began.

“Since President Maduakor came into this board, he has been making us happy. And I believe he will do more than this by the special grace of God.

And he will go higher than this,” he remarked, echoing the sentiments of many within the amputee football community.

With events like “Kick for Love,” the Nigerian Amputee Football Federation continues to promote inclusivity, skill, and the spirit of unity through the beautiful game, leaving a lasting impact on players and spectators alike.
