Welsh Goalkeeper Sees First World Cup Red Card For Karate Tackle

Wales Goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey was kicked out of a World Cup match after landing a head-high karate kick.

In the 2-0 loss to Iran, Nottingham Forest’s goalkeeper saw the tournament’s first red card after raising a high-head kick against his opponent.

Late in the game, Iran’s Mehdi Taremi was collided with outside the area by Hennessey, who had rushed off his 18-yard box to stop the attacker from getting a through pass.

The Wales goalkeeper rushed off his line to confront the Iran striker before giving him a “karate kick” to the head.

With the help of the video assistant referee, the 35-year-old goalkeeper’s original yellow card was changed to a red one in the 86th minute (VAR).

Meanwhile, Iran won 2-0 in extra time in the second half, and ten-man Wales experienced heartache at the World Cup.
