West Ham risk losing first-team staple with two goals this season for FREE

West Ham United run the risk of losing one of their first-team stars with two goals already this season. David Moyes plans to revert that risk.

West Ham United have started the season well. Despite losing their best player in recent history, David Moyes has defied all odds and currently, the Hammers sit seventh heading into the international break. Recent results haven’t gone their way, but the performances have remained constant.

One player who has been key so far this season is the midfielder Tomas Soucek. Admittedly he’s had a more important role this season given the absence of Declan Rice, but the Czech international has embraced it. So much so, he has two goals and an assist to his name already this season in the Premier League, while scoring on international duty against the Faroe Islands. A good return for a midfielder.

West Ham intensify contract talks with Tomas Soucek

However, Moyes is wary of his midfielder’s contract situation. With Soucek available to leave the club for free at the end of the season, it’s important the Hammers start negotiations now.

According to a report from Football Insider, West Ham plan to intensify their efforts to tie Soucek down to a new deal before it becomes too late. Ideally, they should achieve this before January, where he is available to sign a pre-contract agreement with a different club.

Ageing at 28 years old, Soucek is entering the prime stage of his career as a midfielder. Certainly a fan favourite and a staple in this David Moyes system, it’s absolutely essential that he extends his stay at the London Stadium. He has more to give and given their European campaign, a player with the composure of Soucek is very much needed going forward.

In other news, Moyes has added this Real Madrid talent to his January shortlist.

Do you think West Ham will manage to keep Tomas Soucek?
