In a startling revelation, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has apprehended a woman, Imaobong Sampson Francis, for orchestrating her own kidnapping and demanding a ransom of N4 million from her aunt residing abroad.

The disclosure came from the state Commissioner of Police, CP Waheed Ayilara, during a press briefing held on Friday, March 15, 2024, in Uyo. Francis, a resident of Nung Oku Village in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, allegedly colluded with her boyfriend and three others to stage her abduction as a means to extort money.

According to CP Ayilara, the saga unfolded on March 11, 2024, when a report was filed by Enobong Sampson, the victim’s sister, claiming that Imaobong Sampson Francis had been kidnapped, and the abductors were demanding a hefty ransom. Responding swiftly, the Anti-kidnapping squad of the Command launched an intensive operation to rescue the victim and apprehend the perpetrators.

“On March 12, 2024, at about 23:15 hrs, the purported victim, Imaobong Sampson, and her boyfriend, Beltus Ebong, were apprehended in a hideout at Mbierebe Obio, Ibesikpo Asutan LGA,” CP Ayilara revealed.

He continued, “She confessed to conspiring with her boyfriend, Beltus, and three others to stage her kidnapping with the intention of extorting money from her aunt, who resides abroad.”
