The so-called world’s richest footballer who is reportedly worth a staggering £16billion has been hospitalised after getting injured in a weekend league fixture.

Faiq Bolkiah, the nephew of the Sultan of Brunei, formerly had a spell at Leicester City and Portuguese side Maritimo but failed to make the grade in European football and now plays in the Thai Premier League.

Born into a family of privilege and wealth means Bolkiah boasts a wealth greater than the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, but now faces a spell out of action while he recovers from injury.

The 25-year-old currently plays for Thai top-flight side Ratchaburi and was injured after coming on as a half time substitute against Police Tero on Saturday.

Bokiah collided with an opposition defender moments after making his introduction at the Boonyachinda Stadium and was taken to hospital for further examination and treatment.

The billionaire’s right-leg got caught underneath his opponent’s and bent awkwardly, forcing him to be withdrawn from action and taken to nearby hospital.

Treatment was administered on the injury as physicians appeared to bandage his ankle as the Brunei royal member sat in bed with a concerned look etched across his face.

Ratchaburi club president Tanawat Nitikanchana attended the wealthy player in hospital afterwards with his family and provided an update on his Instagram later.

‘Today is the saddest day, my bro prince @fjefrib got injured while playing for us @rbfcofficial_,’ Nitikanchana wrote alongside an image of Bokiah. I know you must be in shock and big pain right now.

‘But you must know that we are gonna be with you every step of the way until you are back wearing the dragon jersey and scoring goals for us again.

‘Although your only here with us eight months but I’m sure every one in club and the fans love you. We will be waiting for the day you’re back strong than ever my boy.’

Bolkiah previously played in the academies at Chelsea, Southampton and Leicester as he tried to fashion a career as a footballer in one of the major European leagues.
