Yobe by-election: Police intercept busload of suspected political thugs

The Yobe State Police Command said its operatives, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, intercepted an 18-seater bus loaded with suspected political thugs in Gashu’a allegedly hired to disrupt the electoral process in Damaturu.

The command’s Public Relations Officer disclosed this on Saturday in a statement made available to newsmen in Damaturu.

Some of the arrested suspects were identified as Abu Bakar Garba Bololo, 25, Habu Mato, 35, Suleman Musa, 50, and Yusuf Danjuma, 33.

Others were Abdullahi Haruna, 45, Zainab Mohd, 25, and Rachael Bitrus, 23, all of Jakusko and Bade local government areas.

According to the statement, the suspects claimed that they were recruited to serve as agents of one of the opposition parties.

“Meanwhile, the investigation is swift to unravel the criminal implications of the matter,” it said.

The police command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the security and safety of lives and property while calling on members of the public to remain resolute and shun violence and thug-related vices.
