Yobe govt launches diphtheria vaccination exercise, targets children in eight LGs

As part of measures to contain the outbreak of diphtheria, the Yobe State Ministry of Health and the State Primary Health Care Board, in collaboration with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and other development partners, will embark on a six-day diphtheria vaccination drive in eight local government areas of the state.

This was contained in a statement signed and issued on Wednesday by Head of Information, State Ministry Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Ali Musa Yawale.

According to the statement, the six-day campaign billed to reach the targeted children with Pentavalent and Tetanus Diphtheria (Td) and with other routine immunization vaccines will be conducted in the eight local government areas of Bursari, Damaturu, Fika, Fune, Gulani, Jakusko, Nangere and Tarmuwa.

“The exercise, which will commence tomorrow, Thursday, October 12, 2023, to October 17, 2023, is meant for children within the ages of six weeks to 14 years across the eight targeted local government areas.

“The public is also to note that the exercise will be held at all the designated vaccination sites within the communities of the targeted eight LGAs”, it added.

The statement also urged parents, guardians and caregivers to give their maximum support to the trained vaccination officials for success of the exercise.

Recall that Yobe is the second worst hit state affected by diphtheria outbreak in Nigeria.
