Habu Gumel, the President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, has expressed his satisfaction with Nigeria’s performance at the ongoing African Games in Ghana.

Gumel commended the athletes for their achievements so far while urging them to continue striving for excellence and maintaining Nigeria’s position as a powerhouse in African sports.
Speaking from the sidelines of the Games, Gumel emphasized the importance of Nigerian athletes competing with integrity and upholding the values of fair play.
He stressed the need for athletes to win medals through clean competition, devoid of any doping violations or unethical practices.
“The team, Nigeria that are here in Ghana and so far so good. As of now, we are in the second position on the medal table.
And I’m sure more and more medals are coming in, more gold will come in and at the end of it, so far so good,” Gumel remarked, highlighting Nigeria’s impressive showing at the event.
Habu Gumel underscored the responsibility of Nigerian athletes to serve as exemplary ambassadors for the country, both on and off the field.
He urged them to compete with integrity and uphold the image of Nigeria by demonstrating sportsmanship and ethical conduct.
“The message is for them to do their best, to perform very well, to get more and more gold medals, and also to be good ambassadors of Nigeria, to protect the image of our country,” Habu Gumel stated, emphasizing the dual role of athletes as representatives of Nigeria and participants in the global sports community.
Furthermore, Gumel reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to clean sports, emphasizing the importance of winning medals that are untainted by performance-enhancing drugs.
He urged athletes to compete naturally and avoid any form of doping, ensuring that the medals they earn are earned through hard work, talent, and dedication.
“We want in Nigeria clean medals. We don’t want dirty medals. We always look for medals that are clean, that is free of any drugs. We don’t need it,” Habu Gumel asserted, reaffirming Nigeria’s stance against doping in sports.
As the African Games continue, Gumel’s message serves as a reminder of the values that Nigerian athletes uphold and the standards they strive to maintain in their pursuit of excellence on the international stage.
