Devin Haney makes press conference threat after Ryan Garcia claims he is high on social media

Devin Haney has threatened to no-show at a press conference after Ryan Garcia claimed he was high during an interview.

The pair will finally settle their rivalry on April 20 at the Brooklyn Center in New York, with Haney’s WBC super-lightweight title on the line.

Haney and Garcia met in a heated affair at the launch press conference this week, where they traded some vicious verbal blows during their first face-off in New York.

Although if Haney’s recent social media activity is anything to go by, a scheduled second verbal showdown could well be in jeopardy.

Garcia was live on a Twitter space last night, where he was asked how training is going for the blockbuster clash.

He then responded, while slurring: “Amazing bro, looking good and training good. I’m laughing because I’m high as f***.”

The super-lightweight contender was then asked about a clash with UFC champion Sean O’Malley, to which he added: “I’m going to beat O’Malley’s a** in MMA, I’d never let a dude with rainbow hair beat me.”

Haney was quick to respond to the video, tweeting: “I’m not going to that press conference tomorrow.. this dude Ryan wasting mine & everybody’s time.”

It remains unclear if Haney will indeed show up to the media event, which is still set to take place in Los Angeles today.

Garcia and Haney were pulled apart at a Super Bowl press event by security shortly after confirming their April 20 clash, and things have looked equally hostile.

The WBC champion has already claimed that his rival was drunk at their press conference, insisting that he could ‘smell liquor’ on Garcia’s breath.

He explained to Fight Hub TV after the press conference: “Ryan was at the mother f***ing press conference drunk as a skunk.

“But, you know, hopefully, he can get it together before April 20 and I’m going to have him punch drunk on that day.”

The American superstars have already fought six times in the amateurs with three wins apiece.

Garcia and Haney’s meeting in the professional ranks will have huge permutations for both fighter’s careers, particularly Garcia.

And boxing fans will be hoping that Garcia’s behaviour does not lead to a potential cancellation of the fight altogether.
