Chelsea look like a Championship club, says ex-Leeds star Danny Mills | Football

Chelsea could have easily been mistaken for a Championship club in their FA Cup clash against Leeds United, according to former right-back Danny Mills.

Mills, who made 140 appearances for Leeds between 1999 and 2004, was on punditry duties for Sky Sports on Wednesday night.

His old club Leeds, who play in the Championship as they look to gain promotion to the top-flight, faced Chelsea in the fifth round and eventually lost 3-2.

Leeds star Mateo Joseph silenced Stamford Bridge after just eight minutes following a huge defensive mix-up between Axel Disasi and Moises Caicedo.

‘Chelsea were trying to play out from the back – and this is ridiculous,’ Mills said about the opening goal.

‘Leeds have put a high press on right from the beginning and you have to recognise that. Playing out from the back is not always on. Chelsea are the architects of their own downfall here.’

Speaking after Nicolas Jackson levelled it up on 15 minutes, Mills added: ‘It’s settled down a bit after a frantic start, but there’s nothing between the sides right now.

‘You’d struggle to tell which team is in the Premier League and which is in the Championship.’

Even after Mykhailo Mudryk put Chelsea 2-1 up, Mills said: ‘This sums Chelsea up, for me. They’ve got players with individual brilliance, but they don’t really play as a team.

‘There’s no real pattern of play and I still think, if Leeds go for it, they can cause problems.’
