Transfer: How Liverpool 'Stopped' Man City From Signing RB Leipzig Player

English Premier League top club, Manchester City, has been indirectly ‘hindered’ by their rival, Liverpool, from signing RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol.

Naija News learnt that Pep Guardiola’s side is pushing to sign the defender following the departure of some of their players this summer.

However, RB Leipzig director, Max Eberi, told Sky Germany during the week that the club’s £60 million sale of Dominik Szoboszlai to Liverpool meant they no longer needed money.

The German side insisted that their highly-rated defender, Gvardiol, will remain at the club.

“The fact is Man City would like to have him,” said Eberl during an interview.

He added: “Currently, we are still very far apart.

“The transfer of Dominik Szoboszlai has secured us financially. We don’t need the money.

“We would prefer Josko to stay.”

Recall that Liverpool, barely three weeks ago completed the signing of Hungarian midfielder, Dominik Szoboszlai.

Naija News reports that Liverpool paid German Bundesliga club, RB Leipzig 70 million euros to sign the Hungary international.

Dominik Szoboszlai, who signed a five-year deal with the Premier League club is Liverpool’s second signing in the 2023 summer transfer window.

He has been linked to the Merseyside club since Liverpool triggered his release clause in late June this summer.

In each of the previous two seasons, the 22-year-old helped RB Leipzig to win the German Cup.

Szoboszlai made 31 appearances in the Bundesliga last season, scoring six goals and dishing out eight assists.

Since joining Leipzig in January 2021 from Austria’s Red Bull Salzburg, he has scored 20 goals and provided 21 assists in 91 games.
