Nigeria lost 2-0 in the match at the Grand Stade de Marrakech; goals from El Bilal Toure and Kamorou Doumbia, one in each half of the game secured the victory for Mali; their first against the Super Eagles in 49 years.

 

 

In his post match remarks, Omeruo found positives in the team’s performance despite the defeat.

“I think we played a better second half, it wasn’t a bad game, we just didn’t take our chances and they scored two goals. Overall, I think we played a good game,” Omeruo told NFF TV.

“I think it was a good outing for us; fantastic spirit. The players that were here gave their best. We just couldn’t score in the game.”

Looking ahead, Nigeria now turn their focus towards the June 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where they are set to face South Africa and Benin Republic.
